RudiSeptember 28, 2017 I used a BritRail Flexi Pass to explore Northern England and Scotland recently. The advantage of the Flexi Pass is that you can stay for about two weeks, travel by trains on 8 days and enjoy cities and places of entertainment for the time between travelling. Trains in UK are rather comfortable, even in Standard Class, and a seat reservation is recommended only during peak time (early morning until 09:00 h) or on some preferred routes like TPE trains to and from Manchester Airport.
For my next visit to UK I will certanly use a BritRail Pass again.

AnthonySeptember 10, 2017 I've used ACP Rail for a few years and service has been entirely reliable. |
Jeff & Mary USASeptember 01, 2017 We used the 30 day consecutive pass and found it a good value and easy to use. It was accepted on all trains without question, we avoided ticket lines, just show your pass, board and go. So many trains to choose from with fast frequent service. Coming from the USA, the trains in Great Britain are a joy to use. One suggestion: seat reservations can be made at any staffed station for any train on the system. A small ticket is printed with the train and seat reservation and given to the rider. If you have a change of trains enroute, then two tickets are issued, one for each leg of the journey. It may be useful for you to ask the agent to pad the time between connections so as to not miss your connecting train. For example, we reserved seats from Leeds to Chester which involved a train change at Manchester with only 16 minutes to change trains at Manchester. Our train arrived Manchester 8 minutes late and we missed our connection. However, we were able to board another train to Chester 30 minutes later and our problem was solved. We travelled in August which is peak season. Some trains were full, but most trains we rode always seemed to have a few seats available.

Simon S.August 28, 2017 Used the 8 days consecutive all-Great Britain pass: Absolutely fantastic. Stayed in Manchester and used the pass to travel to Liverpool, Derbyshire, York, Cardiff / Caerdydd, Glasgow, Blackpool and London. In total it cost me 4 eurocent per kilometre. Staff of all train operating companies were really nice and helpful. Definitely recommend and would love to do again. For up-to-date train information I recommend www.realtimetrains.co.uk. At terminal stations, trains are shown sooner on RTT than on the actual departure boards.

Joanne WhiteAugust 19, 2017 our first trip taking trains everywhere, was a lot of fun and people were so helpful getting us to where we needed to go to. |
ElaineAugust 18, 2017 We've purchased rail passes each time we went to UK (from US)for many visits now. We're seniors finally, so they were even cheaper this time! We arrived in Glasgow by plane and started using the rail pass that day. Went to Gourock by train then took a Ferry to Dunoon. Next day went to Edinburgh returning to Greenock that night. Off to London for several days and on the way back, went to Chester, York and Newcastle. Close to Newcastle, we visited Alnwick to see friends. Then on to the Borders for a couple of days and next, off to Carlisle for the day. Then back to Edinburgh ending the day from on a train from Glasgow to Greenock. A couple of days later we were off to the beautiful granite city of Aberdeen. Then north to Inverness. We wanted to go to Kyle of Lochalsh on the Isle of Skye, but could not get a hotel online. So back to Greenock via Glasgow. We took several local trips while in Greenock going to Greenock West and Fort Matilda but mostly from Greenock to Gourock. Next time, we will concentrate more on Northern Scotland and southern England. We visited family and friends at our leisure, otherwise we would have gone to many more destinations. We went to Paris for two days (separate from rail passes) but would love to have gone back to Portsmouth and Penzance. The passes are so easy to use, they save us a ton of money and there are hundreds of choices on where to go. The trains are very comfortable - you can spread out a newspaper on the table and the snacks and drinks were very fresh. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Thanks! |
London to Edinburghnico ,mexicoDecember 26, 2016 British rail was a pleasant experience. I have been on nicer trains....German trains are the best. The flexibility of use was a good choice. The British rail system is user friendly and the staff helpful. I met very nice Britons on board.

Great ExperienceDave ,Germany![]() Bought a Britrail pass for 4 days in a month and traveled up to the northern most tip of Scotland, down to London and back to the Midlands with it. I was accompanied by my 14 year daughter and she loved it. The most amazing day was walking around the coast by Thurso and then catching the 16:00 to Inverness, then directly on to the Calendonia Sleeper and we woke up in London at 8:00 am the next day. It was amazing that we had traveled almost the entire length of the country and still had lots of energy to walk around and enjoy the capital. Have decided to only use Britrail passes when visiting the UK in future. Leave the car at home.
