Trains in Britain do not require Seat Reservations. Services are often quite frequent on all lines except rural routes. With a BritRail Pass you have great flexibility at all times when choosing your itinerary! Touring Britain with any BritRail Pass is so easy!
Despite this, there are times when we do recommend reserving a seat in advance. During the ‘rush hours’ of course and if you are doing a long trip (e.g. London to Edinburgh) and when you know exactly the train you want to travel on. We also recommend seat reservations on Bank Holidays, Fridays and Sunday evenings can also be busier too. In addition, if you are traveling with other people and want to make sure you sit together, it is a good idea to reserve a seat in advance.
Reserve a seat.
Note: Many trains to not offer Seat Resevations (e.g. commuter, rural and regional services)
Note: Passengers who wish to upgrade a Standard Class BritRail Pass to First Class will need to pay the difference in excess between the Standard and First Class Ordinary Fare for the leg of the journey that has not been taken. This may be paid at the ticket office before boarding the train or to the ticket inspector on the train.
Please see our Terms and Conditions for Refund Rules regarding Rail Strikes.
Excellent decison to purchase FlexiPassSusan Kurucz ,CanadaSeptember 21, 2014 We just returned from a two week trip to the UK. We began in London - went to Bath - then on to Penzance - up to York and then up to Edinburgh before returning to London to leave. The train system was wonderful. We were impressed how efficiently everything ran, the service was always courteous and helpful and it was very easy to navigate. We had one glitch on the train from Penzance to York where the train broke down but we were assisted to a different train and all was good. Thank you for making this service available and all the work involved in keeping it running.
Sue from Canada

Wonderful experience with Britrail pass. Easy to use, great value for amount of traveling that I did while in UK.Gail McLaren/Allen Jossim ,USASeptember 04, 2014 Love to travel by train! Britrail pass allowed me to travel easily from town to town without any problems. So glad I had the pass because I did not have to wait in ticket or information lines. Trains were comfortable and clean. Great experience, have used the passes since 1971 and will continue to purchase them in the future. In fact, husband and I have new Britrail passes to use next week in the UK.
Thanks

BritRail FlexiPassJennifer Turner ,United States of AmericaSeptember 03, 2014 This was my first trip to Great Britain, and the BritRail Flexi pass was a good decision. I knew that since I had two weeks I'd want to take day trips away from London, and having this pass proved to be the best option. I didn't have to wait in line for tickets or bother with printing new ones for each trip, I didn't have to worry about getting on the wrong train because if I did I could just get off at the next stop and hop on the correct route! Very convenient, great value!

Great way to see the UKBen ,CanadaAugust 29, 2014 We used the 3-day pass to get between London, Oxford, York, and Edinburgh. It's really easy to use and saved us a lot of headaches. We could choose the departure time each day without pre-booking. I highly recommend the pass!

Very helpful staffChris Lethbridge ,CanadaAugust 11, 2014 I travelled for 5 weeks with a Britrail pass on several different railroad companies.
All first class coaches were very comfortable and most standard class coaches were almost as good. Food was good and plentiful. Trains on time within 7 minutes.
I wish to commend the train manager on the train to Lamphey and Pembroke who spent at least half an hour on her cell phone trying to get a taxi for me in Pembroke. Without her I would have been stranded. She saved the day for me.

Great TripAngelia ,USAAugust 10, 2014 I bought BritRail Passes for our vacation, not really knowing what to expect. I was most pleased. The service was very efficient--we traveled for a week and never encountered a late train. The staff most helpful--one gentleman even helped me carry my suitcase up the stairs so I wouldn't miss my train. The cars were clean and comfortable. Because we didn't need to worry about driving and parking a car we had the time to enjoy more destinations and squeeze in more exploring. The trip was wonderful--I would recommend BritRail train passes to anyone wanting to see many locations in the U.K.

Great Scot!Everette Williams ,USAJune 30, 2014 Must say our first trip across the pond was just wonderful! Thanks to friendly company staff and on board train personnel. First class was great way to receive your first class service. Timely arrival and departure made seeing the country side even more enjoyable. Thanks for making our trip to Scotland and London the best ever!

Worth EVERY penny!Jayne Cooper ,CanadaJune 30, 2014 This is the third year I have purchased a BritRail Pass. It is very convenient. I order it online and I receive it within 3 days. I was able to catch any train within Great Britain. I usually travel from Preston to Scotland, Preston to Wales and Preston to London, or Preston to York. I usually have to transfer at another station and I have never had an issue with my tickets. All train companies recognize the ticket. When you first go to the train station you go to the ticket booth and the authorize your pass with a stamp and you can start using it. You just hop on the train you want , when the conductor comes by to check your ticket the writes the date and you are good for that whole day. This is an amazing deal also. When I calculated the cost of buying the tickets individually at the station and my ticket I purchased from ACP Rail I saved over $200. Definitely worth it!!! Thanks so much!

Bang for Your Buck!Jessica Maunder ,AustraliaJune 30, 2014 The BritRail Pass was amazing. I only paid $700 AUD for this ticket which covered the whole three weeks I was in the UK. By halfway through my trip, I was already profiting from buying this pass. A trip which would have cost me $320 all up was covered by this rail pass. Most train companies accepted this pass, only obscure train companies in Scotland would not have accepted it. Buying this pass for my trip was one of the best things I ever did.

Great Value Easy to UseBen Reynolds ,USAJune 28, 2014 Almost always cheaper to buy a Britrail Pass than to buy individual tickets. You can also make reservations for a specific train, if you're sure you'll make it on time. I don't do that. I just hop on the next train going where I want -- usually north to York or south to Kings Cross. The WiFi varies with who owns the train, from 15 minutes of too slow to do anything (!) to lots of time to do anything.
The Virgin trains seem too small side to side for my comfort, but all the others have ample seats and good overhead storage space (the bag rags at the end of each car tend to fill up quickly).
I've been using British rail since the 80's, and I've had only one train breakdown (on the way to Manchester in York station). I wish they'd bring back smoking cars, but otherwise everything just works fine. |
