Trains in Britain do not require Seat Reservations. Services are often quite frequent on all lines except rural routes. With a BritRail Pass you have great flexibility at all times when choosing your itinerary! Touring Britain with any BritRail Pass is so easy!
Despite this, there are times when we do recommend reserving a seat in advance. During the ‘rush hours’ of course and if you are doing a long trip (e.g. London to Edinburgh) and when you know exactly the train you want to travel on. We also recommend seat reservations on Bank Holidays, Fridays and Sunday evenings can also be busier too. In addition, if you are traveling with other people and want to make sure you sit together, it is a good idea to reserve a seat in advance.
Reserve a seat.
Note: Many trains to not offer Seat Resevations (e.g. commuter, rural and regional services)
Note: Passengers who wish to upgrade a Standard Class BritRail Pass to First Class will need to pay the difference in excess between the Standard and First Class Ordinary Fare for the leg of the journey that has not been taken. This may be paid at the ticket office before boarding the train or to the ticket inspector on the train.

José RodríguezAugust 30, 2018 I strongly recommend the BritRail pass to anyone willing to visit Great Britain. It is the second time I use this service and again it hasn't disappointed me. It might seem a tad too expensive at the moment of buying it, but it is really worth the price! This past summer, I made more than 10 trips during an 8-day stay, including long-distance journeys, like London-York or Edinburgh-London, as well as short-distance trips. Most of the trains were in good conditions and, with a few exceptions --which obviously coincided with rush hours--, the trains were rarely crowded (although I recommend reserving seats a few hours before the journey, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises!). Besides, travelling by train is probably the best way to get a real idea of the vast, beautiful English countryside and the amazing Scottish coasts and fields. A very relaxing and comfortable way of moving across the British landscape. I must add all the employees from the different railway companies were always kind and helping.

Edward CawleyAugust 22, 2018 The BritRail Flexi Pass was one of the best means of transportations we had during our travels. We had zero issues with validating the tickets. Ticket checks were smooth. No problems what so ever. We found the pass to be great value for money, as we had long journeys to make. If I go back to the UK, the first thing i'm doing is buying another pass! Highly recommend to fellow travellers!

Bernadette August 18, 2018 It is a fair value for this pass if going far distance. You need to reserve seats or you might not get a seat and even if you reserve seats you are not guaranteed those seats. It is exhausting. However, it works on all rail lines and staff in booking offices and on trains are great and trains run frequently and close to on time. Travel light as not much space. We are very sorry to hear that you did not fully enjoy your experience with the BritRail Pass. Depending on travel schedules and itinerary, the pass can offer some great value. With that said, we've taken note of your concerns with the BritRail Pass and we will provide the feedback to BritRail in hope it can help improve the product in the future. Thanks again for your review.

Nikki WhiteJuly 16, 2018 I loved my BritRail flexible pass. It was incredibly easy to validate and use. I used it in England, Scotland and Wales without a problem. The trains from all services were clean and on time. I loved not having to drive!!!! Best value for price, great comfort and no stress.

AnneJuly 13, 2018 Exceeded my expectations, will definitely purchase this pass again!

Robert YoungJuly 11, 2018 I would do it again. It was easy to purchase and use our passes. The staff at the stations and on the trains were friendly and particularly helpful when it came to advising on multiple train changes, e.g. three different trains between Edinburgh and Wales. Much better than flying between cities in Britain.

SusanJune 28, 2018 We bought 1st class senior Brit Rail train tickets for a trip from Glasgow through Wales to Heathrow in May and June. At least 3 of our trains were canceled. It was very stressful. A bus got us to a train station so late, we missed our train. We only had a 1st class train twice + once for 15 minutes. Once we had to stand the whole way. On the weekends there was not the regular drink and food service. On the Heart of Wales train, the drinking and singing was so loud that we put in ear plugs. What a waste of a lot of money and fun. We told all of our friends here so their vacations wouldn't be ruined too. We are very sorry to hear that you did not fully enjoy your experience with the BritRail Pass. We've taken note of your concerns with the BritRail Pass and we will provide the feedback to BritRail in hope it can help improve the product in the future. Thanks again for your review. |
Steele fourJune 21, 2018 Our 15 day consecutive passes did everything we hoped for. We were able to see rural England, get to and from all our destinations easily, and add in last minute detours at will. Using the pass was painless: we showed them to access platforms at the stations then the conductors asked to see them once during any given journey. We were able to book seats for trains that we felt might be busy or when we wanted to be sure to sit together for longer rides. I would recommend BritRail passes to anyone wanting flexibility and convenience. |
Jean L. VogelJune 19, 2018 I thought the rail pass was WONDERFUL!! Upon arriving in London we had our passes validated and never once had any difficulty using it over the 8 days. First Class was excellent. The trains were very clean including the bathrooms. The service was excellent. The ride was extremely comfortable. I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age. |
