If a paper pass is selected, this pass is printed on official railway ticket paper that will be shipped to you. You can select from the available shipping options during checkout. Please allow sufficient time to receive your pass before your departure.

If an M-Pass is selected, an email with an activation link will be sent. When you are ready to use the M-Pass, click the link to select your first day of use or travel dates. After you have completed the check-in, you will be able to download your M-Pass.

Seat Reservations

Trains in Britain do not require Seat Reservations. Services are often quite frequent on all lines except rural routes. With a BritRail Pass you have great flexibility at all times when choosing your itinerary! Touring Britain with any BritRail Pass is so easy!

Despite this, there are times when we do recommend reserving a seat in advance. During the ‘rush hours’ of course and if you are doing a long trip (e.g. London to Edinburgh) and when you know exactly the train you want to travel on. We also recommend seat reservations on Bank Holidays, Fridays and Sunday evenings can also be busier too. In addition, if you are traveling with other people and want to make sure you sit together, it is a good idea to reserve a seat in advance.
Reserve a seat.

Note: Many trains to not offer Seat Resevations (e.g. commuter, rural and regional services)

Note: Passengers who wish to upgrade a Standard Class BritRail Pass to First Class will need to pay the difference in excess between the Standard and First Class Ordinary Fare for the leg of the journey that has not been taken. This may be paid at the ticket office before boarding the train or to the ticket inspector on the train.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for Refund Rules regarding Rail Strikes.

BritRail Pass has been great. Hubby and I have used the flex option several times, best is the paper ticket. Tried the M-pass for one holiday there, scanners wouldn't work with it, probably because of the device screen, took way more time than doing the paper ticket. Good value, especially on the long haul trips.

I love the Britrail Pass. We used one for almost two weeks - the flexi pass - and it was great. I live in a US city with no trains and it's such a joy to travel by rail in the UK. We had reservations most of the time - recommended - but could also be spontaneous (went from Edinburgh to North Berwick for a few

I use this pass each time I travel back to England/Wales to visit friends and family and for work. It is INCREDIBLE value and offers the ease of hop on/off without annoying pre-booking. An absolute must if you are planning to any long journeys in Britain.

This is a great value for rail travel in UK but be prepared for a learning curve and poor service. First its an electronic pass only which requires you to download daily a travel pass. Questions to customer service is email only. Additionally, the Rail Pass only provides passage...if you want to reserve a seat (recommended) there's additional cost which is not explained in the info provided by the company. While I was traveling, I was unable to download the next days pass for several hours. The company had a "system error" apparently BUT no attempt was made to notify their customers or even reply to multiple emails. Again its a great product but provided by a company with VERY poor service

The M pass flexi needs to be better explained. It is not a one month flexi pass. Instead you select 3 days of travel and must travel on those days. Any delays or changes and you loose the day. The only way around this is downloading each day at the last minute. If you are travelling and have limited data this is a problem. Although ACP rail are only available by e mail they do respond quickly and are helpful. Down graded experience because of this the way tickets are managed

We recently used Britrail in January 2020. We found the passes to be great value. We travelled from the South down to the North, then across to Scotland. The passes were even valid to use between Edinburgh and Dunfermline. TIP: the baggage storage areas on most of the trains take only a few large bags. There is space above the seats to store baggage, however size matters, they easily take a 'carry-on' size suitcase and not not suited to large bags and suitcases. I also recommend on long 5hr travels to reserve a 'seated table'. Our son did his school homework and we found the tables useful for this. Good Luck, and I highly recommend a pass.

I bought an 8 day Brit Rail Pass. We went through England, Wales and Scotland. The experience was very good. There were no hassles or difficulties. The officers, at the very different trains, knew about and respected or honored the pass. It was like a "Go forward as many times as you like" kind of experience. Really recommend it.

The problem lies in the reserved seats, many of which are never used. Those using Britrail who are not familiar with the rules find it frustrating to see empty seats while not being able to sit next to their spouse.

I used a 4 day flexi pass in early October. I traveled exclusively on the East coast King X to Edinburgh to Inverness route. Great service, trains were always on time and the meals in first class were top notch. I have purchased this same pass for about 12 years and will continue to do so. The flexibility to use any train is just what I need.
