Airport Trains

Airport trains (also known as airport express trains) serve as a dedicated high-speed rail link between major airports and their corresponding cities. London Heathrow, Rome Fiumicino and Toronto Pearson International are just a few of the many airports around the globe that use an express train service.

Learn More About Specific Airport Trains

Most departures are only 15 minutes apart with a journey length of 30 minutes or less. This makes the airport train the quickest and most convenient method of transportation to and from the air terminal. In the city itself, a centrally-located train station is well-connected with metro, bus and taxi services, so you don’t lose any time getting on with your travels!

Why Travel by Airport Express Train?

  • Fast and efficient, express trains provide a reliable means of getting to the airport right on schedule!
  • Daily departures are frequent and prompt - every 15 minutes on average in each direction.
  • Both city and airport stations feature a number of on-site facilities to help keep your travel experience running smoothly. Generally, you’ll have access to free WiFi, ATM machines, pay phones, tourist information kiosks, cafés, restaurants, shops, restrooms and assistance for disabled passengers.

Ticket Fares Options

Choose from an e-ticket, paper ticket or rail pass, available in one-way or round-trip. Though a seat reservation may not be included, you’ll often have the option of two travel classes:

Standard Class

Offers economical travel in a comfortable, quality seat.

First Class

Offers upgraded travel in quieter, more relaxed atmosphere. Seats are larger, providing superior comfort and plenty of extra elbow and leg room. On select train lines, enjoy complimentary newspapers and magazines, plus access to certain First Class lounges.

Discounts

Children between the ages of 5 and 15 can receive a discount on the adult ticket price. Children under 5 years of age can travel for free. NOTE: discounts are subject to availability.

Ticket Purchase Conditions and Delivery

Depending on the ticket type, the pre-booking time is anywhere from 3 months to 364 days. Exchanges, refunds and expiry dates are determined by each ticket’s specific terms and conditions.

An e-ticket can be printed out from home upon delivery by email. A paper ticket is obtained from a self-service ticket dispensing machine using a ticket collection reference number sent by email. Rail passes are delivered by mail.

Airport Train Features

Capable of reaching top speeds of up to 200km/h, airport express trains are built for maximum passenger comfort as well as for maximum travel efficiency. On board each of these sleek, high-performance commuters, is an expert staff eager and ready to help when assistance or information is needed. Typically, the list of services and amenities available to you during the trip will include:

  • Air-conditioned, smoke-free coaches
  • WiFi internet access
  • Power outlets
  • Work tables
  • Up-to-date flight information video screens
  • Priority seating for elderly and disabled passengers
  • Wheelchair-accessible facilities

Luggage

Smaller items of luggage are stored in underseat spaces, on overhead shelves or on dedicated luggage racks. Larger items are placed in oversize luggage storage areas on the train. While standard-sized items can be transported free of charge, larger pieces may require the purchase of an added travel fare.

Bicycles

In most cases, passengers can carry their bicycle on board free of charge. Exceptions are usually during peak hours from Monday to Friday due to space restrictions on the train.

Animals

A maximum of 2 pets per passenger are allowed to travel for free, provided they remain in a small pet carrier. Additional animals are charged a fee. Larger dogs are also allowed, but must be kept on a leash and properly restrained throughout the trip. Leashed service animals can travel at no extra cost.

Accessibility

Airport trains and their associated railway stations are normally designed to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility and special needs. Travel assistance requests should be made at least 24 hours prior to the train departure time.
