| review jp east pass with ACPBeatrice ,GermanyAge: 18-24March 13, 2013 My trip was very short. Due to my limited stay in Japan at that time I only took the shinkansen to and back from Morioka, then to the Airport. The offer was fair. The assistants helpful. To bad for them if and to my annoyance I hadn't finally found them. The ticket booth where they changed my e-ticket into a proper east rail pass wasn't very easy to find. I guess due to the lack of directories to their booth. I consider the service itself only average. If it hadn't been for the translator I probably would have only known half of the possibilities I had with my rail pass.
This makes value and convenience of the offer a top scorer. The comfort presented not only on board the train but also through the organized platforms at your stations had a very inviting effect to me. |
Perfect access to ski in JapanJoe Siebert ,UK Age: 30-39January 23, 2013My girlfriend and I pre-booked the JR East pass before arriving for a skiing holiday in February 2012. We found it very easy to collect after we arrived as there are several JR offices in the rail stations around Tokyo. The customer service there helped us book our first couple of trains without any additional fees and we had a choice of several trains (including shinkansen) to access Nagano prefecture on that same day - from memory there was a service leaving every hour or so throughout the day from Tokyo. The rail service was smooth, comfortable and efficient with reserved seating (perfect after a long haul flight!). After arriving in Tokyo we were in our accommodation in Hakuba within a few hours, however the rail journey from Nagano to Hakuba was going to take longer than the bus, so we opted to use the bus for this leg of the trip (Nagano-Hakuba). On our return to Tokyo we took the rail all the way from Hakuba to Toyko and it was again very comfortable and efficient. I would definately recommend the JR East pass as it is well suited to people who are arriving in Japan for a 1-2wk skiing holiday in Nagano/Hakuba. It allows enough travel for access to/from Tokyo to ski areas in Hakuba. Our skiing gear and luggage was not a problem on the train as through the middle of the day the trains were not full. The JR East pass it great if you don't want the hassle of having to buy individual tickets at the station and it provides better value than doing this. I wasn't blown away by the value... but was definately cheaper than buying tickets at the station each time.
