Don't ever travel with Queensland Rail when the train is off because of track maintenance. The coach journey from Maryborough West to Cairns was our worst nightmare.

These are the most comfortable trains I have ever been on. I am very tall, and I had enough room to cross my legs even when the seat in front of me was reclined. The food, especially the roast pork lunch, was reasonably priced and edible. The booking process needs to be improved, as there are no easily usable or searchable maps and schedules on the Queensland Rail website. I had to wait until I got to Brisbane, visit a customer service agent, and get help in person. I'm not saying that the online services don't exist, I'm saying that if they do exist, they are so difficult to find and navigate that I was unable to find and use them. When I boarded my first train and saw their in-train magazine, it contained all of the information that I had not been able to find by searching their website.
