The Japan Rail Pass offers great value! It’s an economical way to travel throughout Japan’s extensive rail network, considered to be one of the most efficient in the world. This includes travel aboard the world famous Shinkansen ‘bullet trains’, limited expresses and local services.

Where can the pass be used?

A Japan Rail Pass can be used on all Japan Railways (JR) lines and the Shinkansen ‘bullet trains’ (except the pass is not valid on “NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” trains on the Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen lines). The Japan Rail Pass is offered by the six companies that make up the Japan Railways Group (JR Group), including JR Kyushu, JR Shikoku, JR West, JR Central, JR East and JR Hokkaido. The Japan Rail Pass can also be used for the Tokyo monorail.

These Shinkansen “bullet trains” can be used:

A Fantastic PurchasePaul ,CanadaJanuary 18, 2013
The Japan Rail Pass was perhaps the best travel purchase I have ever made. I am not sure exactly how much money I saved while using the 21 day pass but it is certainly in the hundreds of dollars. While you do need to travel a bit to get your value back I was able to do this in a fourteen day period with two or three day stops in each location. The other seven days which my pass was valid I was using it mostly on the local lines, which are sometimes Japan Rail too. The convenience the Pass offered was also a huge boon. I was able to quickly book, or even just step onto, trains when needed. The Japan Rail Pass's true value, however, is found in its flexibility to miss trains (something that can happen in foreign places with language barriers)without having to purchase more tickets. I saved money in this manner myself, having accidentally missed a stop on a bus I was taking. As well the pass accomadates all those eventualities which can occur while travelling. For instance while I was in Osaka a friend of mine forgot our tickets to a conference in Tokyo. With the Pass I was able to fetch them, with no additional expense, from Tokyo just in time to make it to the conference. Without the Pass it would not have been worth taking the train back and we would have missed an amazing opportunity. Finally, while my trip was mostly planned, the Pass allowed me to adjust my itinerary to visit attractions that I only discovered once I had been in Japan a few days. If you are a less well organized traveller then I could not imagine leaving without this Pass, and even if you have a set plan the flexibility is worth almost as much as the money you will save. -I should add that I was hesitant to purchase the pass before leaving Canada as I was not sure how useful it would be. I worked it out and found that at worst it was no more expensive than buying tickets in country so I got the Rail Pass. So glad I did.

I did a lot of research online as I wanted a 21 day Japan Railpass. ACP's ordering process was easy and quick and I received the tickets shortly after. Once in Japan, it was very easy to get them activated. I would highly recommend ordering from ACP Rail.

Made my multi-city trip so easyDawn ,CanadaJanuary 17, 2013
I travelled from Tokyo to Kyoto and Nara, into mountain region north of Tokyo, to Ichenoseki and sendai, Yokohama. The trains were amazing! Reserving a seat if you are travelling any distance is always a good idea and super easy to do. Worked well in major cities you just have make sure which company is running the line you are looking at.

I'm glad I decided to get the rail passDaphne ,UKJanuary 17, 2013
Transport in Japan is quite expensive. I got the 7-day Rail Pass because I knew I wanted to go to Kyoto and Nikko from Tokyo, and getting a Rail Pass for these trips was cheaper than buying the train tickets separately. You can exchange the exchange voucher quite easily for the real Rail Pass, and if you're traveling and seeing all the sights you might be able to use it in unexpected ways, too, which saves you even more money. It was my first time purchasing a rail pass online but it worked out and I'm really glad I got it. Good value, and saved me the trouble of buying multiple tickets.

We spent two weeks in Japan. Using the Japan Rail Pass allowed us to travel the entire country using regular trains and Bullet trains. It was VERY easy to use and is the BEST VALUE for transportation you can get. We have recommended to others. It was OUTSTANDING!!!!

Made our vacation even more awesome!!!Debbie Cairns ,CanadaJanuary 17, 2013
Our 3 week trip to Japan was truly a trip of a lifetime. The JR pass made travel so easy and making reservations was so simple, the only way to get around Japan! We traveled all the way to the southern tip of Kagoshima. I don't think there are words to explain how happy we were that we had a JR pass. The spacious seats and ample leg room made it seems like we traveled first class everywhere. We used the pass on the Miyajima ferry. We also took short day trips to Kobe from Osaka, to Yokohama from Tokyo and from Hakone to Tokyo. It would have taken hours longer if we had to take a bus. I tell all our friends that they have to buy a pass if they go to Japan. It's the only way to go and covers most of travel options; trains, buses and ferries. The JR pass is definitely the best value for the money...money well spent! We are now planning a trip to Europe, so Eurail passes would definitely be a bonus!

Easy freedom of travelPaul Hussey ,UKJanuary 17, 2013
From picking up the pass from helpful staff at Tokyo Airport to booking seats, again from very helpful staff at the various stations, I found using the pass a positive experience. Travelling from Tokyo to Osaka with several stops and excursions using the pass allowed me to be spontaneous in deciding where to go. A great way to get around Japan.

Great Tool for Travel in JapanWill Ranson ,CanadaJanuary 17, 2013
I traveled through Japan for 18 days and was able to see quite a diverse spectrum of the countryside and cities through the use of my JR pass. I loved the fact i didnt need to book in advance and could change up my travel plans on a whim. The cost is high but its worth the benefits in my opinion. Had I bought all my tickets separately I would have paid the same amount halfway through my trip.
