- In trains between Helsinki and St Petersburg/Moscow, a 1st class ticket is needed for travel in a double or a single compartment. Several customers have had problems in trains because they have had second class tickets in first class sleepers. There is a risk that they are not allowed to board the train because the Russian train personnel cannot collect the difference in price.
How to book International VR trains from Finland to Russia
As of September 3rd, 2006:
- The train 034AJ("Repin") St.Petersburg - Helsinki will change the number into 033AJ and will depart from St.Petersburg Finljandski.
- The train 036AJ("Sibelius") St.Petersburg - Helsinki will change the number into 035ZJ and will depart from St.Petersburg Finljandski.
Helsinki to St. Petersburg Ladogskii: the seat reservation works with train numbers as per VR (http://www.vr.fi/heo/eng/ita/ftaulukot.htm): 35, 33 and 31.
However, on the way back, St. Petersburg Ladogskii to Helsinki, it is as per die Bahn (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en): 35ZJ ,33AJ,32AJ.
